How can CHWs engage communities to improve heart health?

A Conversation with: CHW Jacquelyn Toledo and NHLBI

The National Heart, Blood, and Lung Institute (NHLBI) has partnered with the Central Massachusetts Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Noelle Wiggins of the Multnomah County Health Department in Oregon, and the Altarum Institute, to develop curricula using adult learning and popular education techniques to train CHWs to educate their own communities about heart health.  Jacquelyn Toledo, a community health worker who has participated in and helps teach the curricula, discusses her experiences in this month’s conversation. She is joined by facilitators Noelle Wiggins, Gloria Ortiz (NHLBI), Jena Bauman Adams (Central Mass AHEC) and Melinda Cordero-Bárzaga of Visíon y Compromiso.
